Danseuse, chorégraphe et choréologue Benesh

Née en Sardaigne, Shaula Cambazzu se forme en danse classique, moderne et contemporaine ainsi qu’au théâtre en Italie. Elle complète sa formation à New York auprès de Merce Cunningham, José Limón et Trisha Brown.

En 1993, elle rejoint la compagnie Charleroi/Danses en Belgique, alors dirigée par Frédéric Flamand, et interprète ses créations ainsi que celles de chorégraphes invités tels qu’Adriana Borriello, Lucinda Childs, Stephen Petronio, William Douglas, Claudio Bernardo et Yoshiko Chuma. Elle poursuit son parcours au sein de la compagnie Thor de Thierry Smits jusqu’en 2003.

Depuis, Shaula Cambazzu multiplie les collaborations avec des chorégraphes, metteurs en scène, musiciens et compagnies à travers l’Europe et à l’international, développant des projets variés et interdisciplinaires.

En 2004, elle fonde la compagnie Ars Extremis et crée plusieurs œuvres, dont les solos SuGiassu et Dripping, et le duo Mare.

Membre active d’Artistique Théâtre (Paris) depuis 2011, Shaula Cambazzu contribue à la création de spectacles mêlant théâtre, danse, musique et arts audiovisuels, en collaboration avec la metteuse en scène Lucile Cocito. Elle participe à un processus de laboratoire qui combine travail physique, improvisation et écriture, développant les performances avec les interprètes dès les répétitions puis en résidences d’écriture. Ses contributions se retrouvent dans les créations récentes de la compagnie, telles que Artemisia Project et Les Filles de la Mer.

Choréautrice, elle crée des performances expérimentales et des projets pédagogiques centrés sur l’émotion et la relation au vivant. Elle co-coordonne des projets artistiques internationaux et est Designer de parcours artistiques sur mesure pour des publics variés, offrant des expériences innovantes et adaptées. Son travail au sein de la compagnie Artistique Théâtre et sur le projet transnational La Nomad House illustre sa capacité à mobiliser le corps, l’imaginaire et le collectif, tout en respectant la diversité des expériences et en créant des environnements égalitaires et collaboratifs.

Choréologue Benesh diplômée du CNSMD de Paris, Shaula Cambazzu conçoit la partition chorégraphique comme un espace vivant de mémoire, de relation et d’invention. Son travail en notation nourrit ses projets de création, de reconstruction et de transmission, articulant écriture du mouvement, expérience sensible et pratiques collectives.

Elle possède également une expertise en dramaturgie et arts du spectacle, diplômée du Centre d’Étude Théâtrale (C.E.T.) de Louvain-la-Neuve en Belgique. Cette formation enrichit sa pratique chorégraphique et ses collaborations en tant qu’artiste associée au théâtre, lui permettant d’intégrer construction scénique, sensibilité dramaturgique et articulation entre geste, parole et voix dans ses créations.

Dancer, choreographer, and Benesh choreologist

Born in Sardinia, Shaula Cambazzu trained in classical, modern, and contemporary dance, as well as theater, in Italy. She completed her training in New York with Merce Cunningham, José Limón, and Trisha Brown.

In 1993, she joined the Charleroi/Danses company in Belgium, then directed by Frédéric Flamand, performing his creations as well as works by guest choreographers including Adriana Borriello, Lucinda Childs, Stephen Petronio, William Douglas, Claudio Bernardo, and Yoshiko Chuma. She continued her career with Thor, Thierry Smits’ company, until 2003.

Since then, Shaula Cambazzu has collaborated with numerous choreographers, directors, musicians, and companies across Europe and abroad, developing diverse and interdisciplinary projects.

In 2004, she founded the company Ars Extremis and created several works, including the solos SuGiassu and Dripping, and the duet Mare.

An active member of Artistique Théâtre (Paris) since 2011, Shaula Cambazzu contributes to the creation of performances that blend theatre, dance, music, and audiovisual arts, in collaboration with director Lucile Cocito. She takes part in a laboratory-based process combining physical work, improvisation, and writing, developing performances with the performers from the rehearsal stage through to writing residencies. Her contributions are featured in the company’s recent productions, such as Artemisia Project and Les Filles de la Mer.

As a choréautrice, she creates experimental performances and educational projects focused on aesthetic emotion and the relationship to the living. She co-coordinates international artistic projects and is a Designer of tailored artistic pathways for diverse audiences, offering innovative and adapted experiences. Her work with Artistique Théâtre and the transnational project La Nomad House demonstrates her ability to mobilize the body, imagination, and the collective, while respecting the diversity of experiences and creating collaborative and inclusive environments.

A Benesh choreologist graduated from the CNSMD of Paris, Shaula Cambazzu conceives the choreographic score as a living space of memory, relationship, and invention. Her work in notation nourishes her projects of creation, reconstruction, and transmission, articulating movement writing, sensory experience, and collective practice.

She also holds expertise in dramaturgy and performing arts, graduating from the Centre d’Étude Théâtrale (C.E.T.) in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. This training enriches her choreographic practice and her collaborations as an associate theater artist, allowing her to integrate stage construction, dramaturgical sensitivity, and the articulation between gesture, speech, and voice into her creations.
